|Joseph Plaia - Presenter Bio|
Joe Plaia is a nationally recognized expert in the substance abuse industry, with over 30 years of experience. Mr. Plaia has worked in all testing modalities and services, including laboratory services, Point of Collection Testing, data management systems and readers, TPA’s, occupational health centers, and collection services. He has developed and implemented programs for Fortune 500 companies, small to mid-size businesses, as well as Criminal Justice and Treatment. Currently, Mr. Plaia is a management consultant in his own business specializing in business development, sales and marketing, program development, and production of training modules. Joe continues his career long commitment to the industry by serving on the Board of Directors for the Substance Abuse Program Administrators Association (SAPAA).
From April, 2011 to September, 2012, Joe was the Director of Sales for National Accounts for Alere Toxicology. He previously held the position of Director of Sales for Varian, Inc. with responsibility for International Sales and Marketing, from April 2003 to February, 2011. Joe’s experience includes the holding the position of National Sales and Marketing Director for LabCorp for the Executive Sales Group. This sales team managed Fortune 500 companies, National Third Party Administrators, and Occupational Health Services accounts. Joe’s organization managed over 300 major corporations and all of the largest TPA’s. He also oversaw drugs of abuse collections for over 500 Patient Service Centers.
In 1986, Joe served as an industry consultant for Roche Diagnostics in the development of the first on-site drug test and was hired as a regional sales representative in January of 1990. He was promoted to National Sales Manager of the Drug Abuse Testing division in September, 1992, and served in that capacity for 8 years. Joe was awarded four President Achievement Awards as National Sales manager of the year for Roche.Joe graduated from the University of Alabama in 1973 with a BA in Sociology, a minor in English, and extensive studies in Business Administration-Marketing. In addition to graduate studies and receiving Certification in Public Administration, he has also completed numerous sales and management training courses and has conducted the training of hundreds of sales and management professionals in areas of Marketing, Sales, Strategic Planning, and Key Account Management.
